This includes a range of diagnostic equipment, which aids the investigation of common equine conditions. As our equine vets are able to come to you and your horse/s, you can often avoid the stress and hassle associated with trips to the vet, which in many cases is beneficial for both horse and owner.
In addition to our office in Upton, Banbury, we also retain a partner facility at Lynwood Stud in Warwickshire for artificial insemination (AI) and standing procedures that require the use of stocks. For testing and diagnostics, we have our own in-house laboratory at our office, where we can complete a range of diagnostic tests without having to send samples to a third-party laboratory. This provides fast turnaround times and continuity of care when it matters most, including for emergency cases.

Purchasing a new horse is a significant decision, with many aspects to consider. Understanding its health and suitability for you will leave you well placed to make an informed decision. Horses that are suitable for light hacking, may not be suitable for intense schooling or competition, so seeking advice from an experienced equine vet is advisable prior to purchase. We help prospective horse owners assess health and suitability for planned use. During our pre-purchase vettings, we aim to identify pre-existing problems that may affect the horse’s performance. For prospective owners looking for a comprehensive examination, we provide a five stage vetting, while for a more basic examination we have a two stage vetting. Our five stage vetting service is our most popular horse vetting service among most prospective owners.
Alongside our five and two stage vettings, we also offer additional diagnostic tests which can provide further peace of mind. We can complete x-rays, ultrasound and endoscopy when requested. Our equine vets can also take a blood sample for further testing. If you are ready to book a five stage or two stage vetting, please use our online pre-purchase examination form or contact us if you have any questions.
Equine dentistry is an integral part of routine equine care. Regular dentistry can help prevent weight and performance issues that may also be causing your equine discomfort. At Avonvale Equine, we deliver a number of equine dental services, all of which are designed to help you look after your horses’ teeth at every age. Our equine vets recommend that horses have an annual dental checkup. This is the most effective way to look after equine teeth and identify any dental issues at an early stage. Horses that are under 5 years old or over 15 year olds should have checkups every 6 months. Foals and younger horses are at a key stage of development and horses over 15 years are more likely to develop more severe dental issues, especially if they are not identified at an early stage.
Our ambulatory equine dental vets complete many dental procedures at your horse’s stable. This is beneficial to both equine and owner, as unnecessary vet trips for many issues can be avoided. Avonvale Equine’s veterinary team make use of the latest equipment and specialist training to deliver high quality equine dentistry. If your horse requires routine equine dentistry, advanced equine dentistry or investigating/diagnostic services, we can help. Contact our practice for help with maintaining or restoring your horse’s dental health.
