Avonvale Equine Vets are strategically positioned in Upton, Banbury and are a short distance away from popular towns and villages in the Cotswolds. As an independent ambulatory practice, our equine vets in the Cotswolds deliver high quality veterinary care to equines in Morton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Burford, Witney, Chipping Norton, Charlbury and Woodstock. The Cotswolds is renowned for its vibrant equestrian community, with a high population of equines and several high-profile equestrian events including Blenheim Palace Horse Trials in Woodstock and Cornbury House Horse Trials in Chipping Norton. We are proud to be an independent equine-only practice that prioritises the needs of equines and their owners in everything that we do.
As an ambulatory practice, we have invested in quality mobile equipment to allow us to perform a wide range of procedures wherever your horse is kept. We also have a partner facility at Lynwood Stud in Warwickshire for artificial insemination (AI), gastroscopy and standing procedures that require the use of stocks.
Furthermore, at Avonvale Equine, we have our own in-house laboratory at our office in Upton, near Banbury where we can complete a range of diagnostic tests quickly without having to send samples away to a third-party laboratory. This provides fast turnaround times and continuity of care when it matters most, including for emergency cases.

Our experienced and qualified equine vets and equine vet nurses provide routine veterinary services as part of our Wednesday zone visit day. Clients can pre-book routine veterinary services on this day with no call out fee including vaccinations, dentistry, prescription rechecks, ACTH blood samples, passport applications, microchips and examinations for non-emergency conditions. It is advisable to book these appointments as far in advance as possible as these days can become booked up weeks in advance.
Our zone visits are subject to specific terms and conditions to keep our zone visits running smoothly and efficiently. Please see our zone visits page for our full requirements.
If a zone visit day is not available or suitable, we also provide chargeable non-emergency callouts within our normal working hours. Please get in touch with the practice on 01295 670 501 to book an appointment.
Our emergency equine vets in the Cotswolds provide 24/7 in-house emergency call-outs to equines within our Cotswolds coverage area. Whenever your equine needs us, we are here to help and you will always see an Avonvale Equine vet, no matter what time of day or night that you call. This delivers continuity of care and avoids any need for handovers between your regular equine vet practice and an out of hours practice.
If your equine requires veterinary attention outside of practice hours, call our 24-hour emergency line on 01295 670 501. Our on-call vet will be able to assist you.

If you are looking to purchase a horse for leisure, competition or breeding, we can help you assess its health and suitability for your intended use. As part of the vetting, we will look to identify pre-existing problems that may affect your horse’s future performance. We provide a comprehensive five stage vetting or a more basic two stage vetting to suit your requirements. In addition to what is included as part of these vettings, we can take a blood sample and complete further diagnostic tests including x-rays, ultrasound and endoscopy if required. To book a five stage or two stage vetting, please use our online pre-purchase examination form or contact us.
Dentistry is an essential part of horse healthcare, and we provide a wide range of equine dental services to help look after your horses’ teeth. We recommend regular dental checkups to pick up on dental issues at an early stage. Most horses and donkeys should have an annual dental examination, unless they are under 5 years old or over 15 years old, in which case a 6-month examination is recommended. Our equine dental vets are well supported by specialist training and the latest equipment, which enables them to complete many dental procedures at your horse’s stable. Whether your horse requires routine equine dentistry, advanced equine dentistry or investigative or diagnostic services, we can help you restore and maintain your horse’s dental health.
Breeding horses is both complex and challenging, yet incredibly rewarding, especially when the foal arrives. Our experienced equine reproduction vets provide a full suite of equine reproductive services to support you and your mare from initial preparations through to post-foaling care. Our equine reproductive services include equine artificial insemination (AI), equine pregnancy ultrasounds, broodmare vaccinations and equine infertility investigations. Whether you are a professional breeder of performance horses or want a single foal from your mare, our highly experienced and specialist vets are here to help. We currently support both commercial stud farms and private breeders with ambulatory care and our partner facility at Lynwood Stud.
Equine performance medicine is a specialist area at Avonvale and we support a range of equines and their owners across various disciplines including racing, dressage, eventing and showing. Our equine performance vets are highly qualified and experienced in all areas of equine performance medicine. Whether you are competing at the highest level, starting your competitive journey as an amateur or somewhere in between, we are here to help.
